650 Ton Coal Bunker |
Located
at the foot of the mountain, between the industrial site and the community is the Water
District, which provides water to the water bridge across the tracks, to the boilers
within the power plant, and to facilities throughout the industrial site, as well as to
the growing community to the west. The building housing the pumps is a converted
passenger station. Vehicles in front of the building are a gift from my wife -
items she picked up at the B&B.
A
familiar site on the side of the road anywhere. When I saw this in a magazine, I
knew it was for my layout. I had planned on building a power plant and this would
definitely serve as the substation between it and the community which was well on its way
to becoming a township. It was tedious work putting it together and the fact that
most of it was repetitive, it was twice as hard. Like John S. says, "It's
double work;" however, my wife says, "You wouldn't be doing it if you didn't
enjoy it."
What a
beauty of a coal bunker. Again, this item appears to have been designed for layouts
like mine in mind. One which provides ample spaced for this bunker. It
features no less than seven chutes. Two of which are for the disposal of ash.
The kit includes directions for downsizing for lack of adequate space. I built this
one full size in case I decided to add track at a later time. Pictures of the real
McCoy are on the back of the box suitable for framing. The coal bunker has been relocated
a bit south of this location to make room for the recent addition of the grain elevator
and silos.
